Sticks-2-Schools Scores Donations from Sure Fire Protection and Teamwrkx Inc. to Help Fight Childhood Obesity by Bringing Lacrosse to Bay Area Schools

San Jose, CA --- January 26, 2009 --- Sticks-2-Schools, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting childhood obesity, received two donations this month. Sure Fire Protection, a previous sponsor, donated $500 and Teamwrkx, Inc., one of the nonprofit’s founders, contributed $2,500. The donations will be used to help Sticks-2-Schools bring its program to more Bay Area schools.

Since 2005, Sticks-2-Schools has provided an estimated 38,000 youth with the opportunity to get fit while learning to play lacrosse by introducing the sport into the physical education (PE) and after-school programs at 60 Bay Area elementary, middle and high schools. Sticks-2-Schools supplies the schools with free lacrosse equipment, curriculum guides, and on-site training by members of the San Jose Stealth professional indoor lacrosse team.

“All of us here at Sure Fire Protection know that introducing these kids to a fun and easy sport as an alternative to the game boxes at home is a rewarding accomplishment that benefits our community, We are proud to help the program, and we encourage others to follow,” said Charlie Quickert, president of Sure Fire Protection.

The need for physical fitness programs is greater than ever as cash-strapped schools contemplate reducing PE activities and eliminating sports programs. Schools are required to provide a meager three hours of physical activity over a period of ten school days to students in first through sixth grade. That works out to just 20 minutes a day and includes time spent walking to and from the playground. Students in grades seven through twelve are allowed 40 minutes a day. Unfortunately, by seventh grade, youth who are inactive, overweight or obese find it difficult to change their lifestyle.

“Teamwrkx has always been passionate about children’s health. That’s why we co-founded Sticks-2-Schools, and why we’ll continue to provide financial support to this program, despite the challenging economic conditions everyone is facing across all industries,” said S2S Board of Directors President and Teamwrkx CEO Eric Venzon.
