Sticks-2-Schools Adds Three Schools to Waitlist in April, Raises $5,000 in Donations to Continue Fight Against Childhood Obesity by Bringing Lacrosse to Schools

Pleasanton, CA – April 30, 2009 – Sticks-2-Schools (S2S), a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting childhood obesity by encouraging youth to become more active, has raised approximately $5,000 and added three new schools to the waiting list of thirty-one. Windmill Springs School in San Jose, Highlands Elementary in Pittsburg and Linda Vista Elementary (East Valley Family YMCA) in San Jose will all benefit from the S2S program in the 2010 season. As partners of the S2S program, the San Jose Stealth professional indoor lacrosse team has visited 81 Bay Area schools to date.

“Our players have been so generous with their time,” said Denise Watkins, owner of the Stealth and an S2S board member. “A special thanks goes out to Stealth forward Colin Doyle, our S2S program representative, who brought the spirit of lacrosse and the message of staying fit while having fun to every school he visited.”

It costs S2S about $2,000 to bring the program to a school on the waitlist. Donations were brisk in April, with $2,000 received from US Lacrosse, the national governing body of men's and women's lacrosse; $1,000 from Chipotle, a popular Mexican restaurant with locations throughout the Bay Area; and $1,980 from the Launch-a-Ball contest at the last San Jose Stealth home game.

The organization also benefitted from a contribution of a different kind: website development services to produce the new S2S website – a comprehensive source of information for schools and prospective sponsors. The Faultline Marketing team, led by owner Brad Cairns, donated an estimated 80 hours of programming, design and editing.

“Sticks-2-Schools is truly a noteworthy cause, and they deserve to have a website that matches the quality of the program,” said Brad Cairns, who has worked with S2S since its inception in 2005.

Next season Sticks-2-Schools plans to leverage its website, e-newsletter and other marketing resources to accelerate fundraising efforts to address their growing waitlist...
